Backup, reset, export, or import theme Customizer settings from one admin screen.

Overview

Experimenting with WordPress Customizer settings can leave a theme with dozens of changes that are difficult to undo individually. Sometimes the easiest solution is to start fresh—but you may still want a safe copy of the current design.
Customizer Reset gives you a central place to backup, reset, export, import, and restore WordPress Customizer settings. Reset theme styling while preserving important site content such as menus, widgets, your site logo, and Additional CSS by default, or create a backup first so you can return to the previous configuration later.

Restore With Checks Before Changes Begin

  • Resetting a theme shouldn't mean rebuilding the entire website.
  • Customizer Reset focuses on the theme configuration that controls your site's appearance while preserving important content-related settings by default.
  • This means you can clear accumulated layout, typography, color, and styling changes while keeping your menus, widgets, and site logo in place.
  • Additional CSS is also preserved unless you specifically choose to remove it.
  • This makes the module particularly useful when a design has gone in the wrong direction and manually undoing dozens of Customizer changes would take longer than starting again.

Backup First, Experiment Later

  • Customizer Reset isn't limited to deleting settings.
  • Before experimenting with a new design, create a snapshot of your current Customizer configuration. If the changes don't work out, restore your previous settings from the backup history.
  • For an even faster workflow, Backup & Reset combines both actions: WP PowerSuite creates the snapshot first and then resets the Customizer.
  • Backups are stored separately for each active theme, with up to 10 snapshots retained for 30 days.

Move Customizer Settings Between Websites

  • The Import & Export tools are useful when you want to reproduce a theme configuration on another website.
  • Export the Customizer settings as JSON, move the file to another compatible WordPress installation, and import the configuration there.
  • WP PowerSuite checks the theme information during import and warns when the configuration belongs to a different parent theme.
  • Imports can also optionally retrieve compatible remote images referenced in the configuration and add them to the WordPress Media Library.

Designed to Import Customizer Data, Not Your Entire Site

  • Customizer imports are intentionally restricted.
  • WP PowerSuite doesn't treat an imported Customizer file as permission to overwrite unrelated WordPress configuration. Sensitive or unrelated settings such as site URLs, administrator email, user roles, plugins, cron data, upload paths, WP PowerSuite options, and transients are excluded.
  • The import remains focused on Customizer-related configuration.
