Discourage Casual Copying on Public WordPress Pages

• A website may publish original descriptions, editorial text, or other material that its owner does not want casually copied from the page. Disable Text Selection adds a small interaction barrier to that familiar workflow: selecting a passage and copying it directly from the rendered website. The module uses the shared WP PowerSuite frontend protection system rather than requiring you to maintain your own selection-blocking CSS and event handlers.
• The distinction between deterrence and protection is important. The text still has to reach the visitor's browser to be displayed, and this module does not make that text private. Its purpose is to discourage the easiest selection-and-copy interaction and provide feedback when it is restricted. Use it when that limited behavior matches the project, not when the requirement is to keep confidential information away from unauthorized readers.

Choose Which Visitors Receive the Restriction

• A public visitor and an editor reviewing a page may need different experiences. The module's audience settings let you apply the restriction to logged-out visitors, selected logged-in roles, or both. Visitor coverage is enabled by default, while logged-in users are affected only when one of their roles has been selected. This makes it possible to discourage casual public copying without automatically applying the same restriction to every signed-in account.
• The rule is based on your selection rather than a blanket promise that administrators always bypass it. Staff reviewing the frontend can be affected when their role is included, so choose the audience deliberately. If visitor coverage is turned off and no roles are selected, the module has no audience to act on and its hooks do not run. That gives the configuration a clear inactive state instead of leaving an invisible restriction behind.

Explain the Behavior With a Clear Message

• A visitor who cannot select text may otherwise assume the website is malfunctioning. The shared notification system lets you explain the restriction with a short custom message. The default is “This function is disabled,” but the wording can be adjusted to fit the site's tone and give the reader a more useful explanation of the interaction policy.
• Placement and duration can also be adjusted. The notification defaults to the top-right for 3,000 milliseconds, with top or bottom positions and left, center, or right alignment available. These controls let the message remain visible without turning it into a permanent overlay. Keep the copy proportionate to what the module does: it can explain that ordinary copying is restricted, but should not imply that the content has been encrypted or made impossible to capture.

Keep the Scope Focused on Frontend Interaction

• Disable Text Selection operates on browsable frontend HTML. It does not run in wp-admin, so the WordPress editing environment retains its normal administrative behavior. REST responses, feeds, and cron requests are outside the frontend protection system as well. This keeps the module focused on the page a visitor interacts with rather than attempting to rewrite every way WordPress can expose content.
• The restriction is still a change to the reading experience, and it deserves a practical review. Some legitimate visitors select text while reading or copy a short detail they need to use elsewhere. Test the public experience against the site's purpose and leave staff roles unrestricted when their frontend work depends on normal copying. If content is cached for different audiences, the cache must not substitute another role's rendered page for the intended viewer; the module does not make shared cached HTML audience-aware by itself.
