Regenerate Thumbnails
Overview
Regenerates attachment metadata and intermediate sizes across the Media Library via a controlled AJAX process (one image at a time). Includes Start/Stop controls, a progress UI, and an activity log. Respects Disable Thumbnail Generation exclusions—if all intermediates are disabled, regeneration will not create them. Safe to re-run; do not close the modal while a run is in progress.

- Sites that added or changed image sizes and need derivatives rebuilt
- Developers after registering custom sizes or switching themes
- Anyone cleaning up missing or outdated thumbnails
