Convert New WordPress Images to AVIF Automatically

• Modern image formats can reduce image transfer size substantially, but adopting them manually creates another media workflow for editors to remember. A team may optimize a handful of hero images while ordinary blog, product, and gallery uploads continue arriving as JPEG or PNG. Choose the Right AVIF Encoding Strategy

• AVIF support varies between hosting environments, so WP PowerSuite detects which encoding route the server can actually use. Imagick with AVIF support is preferred. If that is unavailable, PHP's GD imageavif() support can be used. An external encoder can also be enabled deliberately on compatible non-Windows systems when the server provides an executable such as avifenc or cavif.
• Encoding is not treated as successful merely because a file was produced. Multi-frame images are refused, dimensions are bounded, and when the resulting AVIF is not smaller than the original, WP PowerSuite removes the generated file instead of storing an optimization that provides no size benefit. The admin interface also reports whether the server is ready and which encoder is available.

Balance Quality, Compression and Processing Time

• Different sites care about different trade-offs. A photography portfolio may favor visual quality, while a content-heavy publication may prioritize lower transfer size. • Large files can require substantially more CPU and memory than ordinary image resizing. Restore JPEG or PNG When You Need To

• Optimization should have a recovery path. In normal sidecar mode, restoration simply removes the AVIF files and their associated metadata while leaving the original WordPress attachment unchanged. In Replace mode, recovery is possible when the source JPEG or PNG was retained in the originals folder.
• During a replace-mode restore, WP PowerSuite removes the AVIF attachment file, moves the preserved original back into place, restores the attachment path, MIME type and GUID, and regenerates WordPress metadata with conversion temporarily suppressed. Restoration runs in batches so a library containing many converted images does not need to be reverted in one request.
