Disable All Updates

Overview

WordPress normally checks for and offers updates for the core software, plugins, themes, and translations. While keeping software updated is important, some developers and agencies manage updates through staging, deployment workflows, hosting platforms, or scheduled maintenance windows instead.

Disable All Updates gives you centralized control over WordPress updates. Pause updates independently for WordPress core, plugins, themes, or translations, and WP PowerSuite blocks both automatic and manual update paths for the selected types until you’re ready to turn them back on.

Control When WordPress Updates Happen

  • Automatic updates are useful for many WordPress websites, but they're not the right workflow for every project.
  • An agency may want to test plugin updates on staging before deploying them to production. A development team may manage releases through version control. A managed hosting workflow may already handle updates separately.
  • Disable All Updates lets you temporarily put WordPress's own update system on hold so updates happen through your process and on your schedule.
  • You can pause everything or choose only specific categories. For example, keep WordPress core updates available while temporarily blocking plugin updates during compatibility testing.

More Than Hiding Update Notifications

  • There is an important difference between hiding an update reminder and preventing an update.
  • WP PowerSuite's Hide Update Notifications module is designed to control visibility.
  • Disable All Updates goes further. For the types you select, it blocks update capabilities and update paths, stops scheduled checks, and prevents WordPress from continuing to offer those updates through the normal interface.
  • If your goal is simply a cleaner dashboard, use the notification module. If your goal is to actually pause updates, use Disable All Updates.
