Download Media Library lets you package WordPress uploads into downloadable ZIP archives directly from wp-admin.

Export the complete uploads directory, choose one or several year/month folders, or download media associated with a supported media-folder taxonomy. WP PowerSuite builds protected temporary ZIP files, gives administrators a controlled download interface, and removes old generated archives automatically after 24 hours.

Download WordPress Uploads Without FTP

Export Everything or Split the Library Into Smaller Archives

  • Large Media Libraries are often organized by WordPress into year and month directories. Packaging the entire uploads tree can produce a file that is inconvenient to download or too large for the server to build safely.
  • WP PowerSuite lets you export the complete uploads area, a single YYYY/MM directory, or several selected months merged into one ZIP. This makes it possible to break a long-running site's media into manageable chunks rather than relying on one massive archive.
  • Each ZIP is limited to 5,000 files and 2 GB, and archive creation is rate-limited per administrator. The module also raises the administrative memory limit where WordPress allows it and uses a short statistics cache so repeated screen loads do not rescan the complete library unnecessarily.

Download Media by Folder When Folder Organization Is Available

  • Sites using supported media-folder organization can export attachments by folder rather than filesystem month. The integration becomes available when the corresponding media-folder taxonomy is present.
  • The export can include the selected folder alone or include its child folders, with attachment queries capped to keep archive creation bounded. This is useful for agencies or editorial teams that organize media by client, campaign, product line, or content area rather than by upload date.

Keep Generated ZIP Files Temporary and Protected

  • An archive of the Media Library may contain a large amount of website content, so it should not be left indefinitely in an obvious downloads directory.
  • WP PowerSuite generates ZIP files inside a dedicated powersuite-downloads folder under uploads, adds protections against ordinary direct HTTP browsing, and requires the administrative download action to stream the archive. Generated archives are automatically removed after 24 hours, and administrators can delete them earlier from the interface.
  • Path checks ensure requested archive files resolve inside the controlled download directory and end in .zip before they are streamed.

Use Media Exports Alongside Storage and Backup Tools

Download Media Library is useful for portable copies of uploads, while Storage Monitor helps you understand how much tracked storage is being consumed by uploads, plugins, themes, and the database before starting an export.
For complete recovery, including the WordPress database and site files beyond uploads, use Backup & Restore instead. Download Media Library intentionally focuses on media exports rather than presenting itself as a complete disaster-recovery backup.
This distinction lets you choose the right tool for the job: a lightweight media ZIP when you need files, or a full backup workflow when you need to restore the website.
