Featured Image Column

Thumbnail previews in post list tables for every public post type with featured images—catch missing or mismatched artwork in seconds.

Overview

Featured Image Column adds an “Image” column to the Posts and Pages list screens in the admin. Each row shows a 40×40 thumbnail of the featured image, or a placeholder if none is set. For users with edit permission, clicking the thumbnail or placeholder opens the media library to set or change the featured image directly from the list—no need to open the post. Quickly spot posts missing featured images or verify the right images are assigned. No configuration needed—enable and the column appears.

Features

Image Column
Adds an "Image" column as the first column (after checkbox) on Posts and Pages list screens. Shows 40×40 thumbnail or placeholder.
Click to Set or Change
Users with edit permission can click the thumbnail or placeholder to open the media library. Select an image and it's set as the featured image immediately—no page reload.
Placeholder for Missing Images
Posts without a featured image show a dashed placeholder with an image icon. Click to set one.
No Configuration
Enable the module and the column appears. Works for Posts and Pages only.

How It Works

Enable the Module
Go to WP PowerSuite, find "Featured Image Column," and click the Enable button.

View the Column
Go to Posts or Pages. The Image column appears in the list. Click any thumbnail or placeholder to set or change the featured image. No configuration needed.
Performance Note
Lightweight. Uses WordPress hooks to add the column and render thumbnails. get_post_thumbnail_id and wp_get_attachment_image_url per row. No extra database queries beyond standard WordPress. Lazy loading on images.

Installation & Activation

Install WP PowerSuite
Make sure the WP PowerSuite plugin is installed and activated on your site.

Enable the Module
Go to the WP PowerSuite menu, find "Featured Image Column" in the module list, and click the Enable button.

Use It
Go to Posts or Pages. The Image column appears. Click to set or change featured images.

Troubleshooting

  • Click doesn't open media library
    Ensure you have edit permission for the post. Check that JavaScript is enabled and no other plugin conflicts with the media modal. Try disabling other plugins temporarily.
  • Column not showing
    Ensure the module is enabled. Refresh the Posts or Pages list screen. The column appears after the checkbox column.
