See Publication Dates Without Losing Status Context
The optional compact date setting replaces WordPress’s Date column with Published. Published items show a date in year/month/day format and a bold time, while other items retain a status label; scheduled content also shows its date and time. This gives an editor a more consistent way to distinguish publication information from workflow status without opening every post. The replacement remains sortable by date, so the denser presentation does not remove chronological sorting.
When Admin Columns Customizer is used with Compact Tables, the date-column key is remapped to the compact version. Treat the compact date as one coordinated column rather than two separate Date columns owned by different modules. Compact Tables handles density and date presentation; the broader customizer handles the rest of the list layout.
