Wider Admin Menu

More horizontal room for the sidebar menu—less cramped labels for busy sites.

Overview

Wider Admin Menu lets you increase the width of the WordPress admin sidebar. The default is narrow and long menu titles can be truncated. Set a width between 160 and 300 pixels (default 200). The content area and footer adjust automatically. Works with the folded (collapsed) state—when the menu is folded, it stays at 36px. Compatible with Gutenberg editor, Query Monitor, and responsive layouts. On smaller screens, the width reduces to 160px for better usability.

Who is this for?
Administrators and power users who want a wider sidebar for easier reading of menu labels, or those with many menu items that get cut off.

Features

Configurable Width
Set menu width from 160 to 300 pixels. Default is 200px.
Content Area Adjusts
The main content area and footer margin-left update automatically so layout stays correct.
Folded State Preserved
When the menu is folded (collapsed), it stays at WordPress default 36px. No conflict with the collapse button.

Frequently Asked Questions

Troubleshooting

  • Width not changing
Ensure the module is enabled and you saved the settings. Refresh the admin page. Check that you're not in folded mode—width applies when expanded.
  • Layout looks broken
Ensure no other plugin is conflicting with admin menu CSS. Try disabling other admin UI plugins temporarily. The module uses !important for compatibility—conflicts are rare.
