Admin Menu Organizer

Reorganize, hide, rename, and customize WordPress admin menu items. Drag and drop to reorder, hide items you don't use, and rename menus to match your workflow.

Overview

Admin Menu Organizer lets you take control of the WordPress admin sidebar menu. Drag and drop to reorder items. Hide menu items you don’t use. Rename items to match your workflow. Add custom menu items and separators. Control visibility by role or by user. Open specific items in a new tab. Changes take effect immediately after saving.

Who is this for?
Site administrators and content managers who want a cleaner, more organized admin menu, or agencies who need to simplify the menu for client users.

Features

Drag and Drop Reorder
Change the order of menu items by dragging. Submenus can be reordered too. Your layout is saved and applied to all admin pages.
Hide Menu Items
Hide items you don't use. Choose to hide for everyone, for specific roles, or for specific users. Keeps the menu clean without removing functionality.
Rename Items
Change the display name of any menu item. Useful for clarity or branding (e.g., "Posts" to "Blog" or "Articles").
Custom Menu Items
Add your own menu items with a title, URL, and icon. Link to external sites, internal pages, or custom admin pages. Set roles and open in new tab.
Separators
Add visual dividers between menu sections for better organization.
Icon Customization
Change menu icons using Dashicons or custom icon URLs.
Restore Defaults
Revert to the original WordPress menu layout anytime.

How It Works

1
Open the Menu Organizer
Go to WP PowerSuite → Menu Organizer in your WordPress admin.
2
Reorder Items
Drag menu items up or down to change their order. Expand items to reorder submenu items. Changes are shown in the list but not applied until you save.
3
Edit or Hide Items
Click an item to edit its title, icon, or visibility. Use hide rules to hide for all users, specific roles, or specific users.
4
Add Custom Items or Separators
Use the Add Menu Item or Add Separator options to create custom entries. Custom items can link to any URL and open in a new tab.
5
Save Changes
Click Save Changes. The admin menu updates immediately. Refresh the page if you don't see changes right away.
Performance Note
Menu configuration is stored in the database and applied when the admin menu loads. Impact is minimal. Hide rules are evaluated per user on each admin page load.

Frequently Asked Questions

Troubleshooting

  • Menu changes don't appear
Click Save Changes in the Menu Organizer. If you just saved, try refreshing the page. The Refresh button may appear after saving—click it to reload.
  • I hid an item but it still shows
Check your hide rules. "Hide for all" hides for everyone. "Specific roles" hides only for users with those roles. "Specific users" hides only for selected users. Make sure you saved after changing rules.
  • Custom menu item doesn't work
Ensure the URL is complete (include https://). The menu slug for admin pages should match the page parameter (e.g., edit.php for Posts). For external links, use the full URL.
  • Restore Defaults removed everything
Restore Defaults clears all customizations and returns to the default WordPress menu. You'll need to reconfigure from scratch. Use with caution.
