Disable Gutenberg
Overview
Disable Gutenberg turns off the block editor (Gutenberg) and reverts to the classic editor for selected post types. By default, Gutenberg is disabled for all post types—Posts, Pages, and custom post types. You can optionally allow specific post types to use Gutenberg (e.g. allow for Pages but not Posts). When Gutenberg is disabled everywhere, block CSS is also removed from the frontend for better performance. Useful for sites that prefer the classiceditor or use page builders.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will existing block content break?
Existing block content remains in the database. If you re-enable Gutenberg later, it will display again. While disabled, you’ll edit posts in the classic editor—block markup is stored but not visible in the classic UI.
Do I need the Classic Editor plugin?
WordPress 6.0+ includes classic editor support. For older WordPress versions, you may need the Classic Editor plugin.
Can I allow Gutenberg for only one post type?
Yes. Select only that post type in “Allow Gutenberg For.” All others will use the classic editor.
Troubleshooting
- Gutenberg still appearsEnsure the module is enabled and you saved. If you selected post types to allow Gutenberg, only those types use it. For Posts, leave "Posts" unchecked to disable Gutenberg for posts.
- Classic editor not showingWordPress 6.0+ includes the classic editor. If you're on an older version, install the Classic Editor plugin. Ensure no other plugin is forcing Gutenberg for your post type.
