Media Rename Manager

Rename existing media files in your library with full control. Update SEO-unfriendly camera names, bulk rename product images, and automatically update all references throughout your site.

Overview

Media Rename Manager gives you controlled filename management for new uploads and existing WordPress attachments without manually moving files through FTP.

Automatically sanitize new upload names, rename individual Media Library files, or bulk rename selected attachments using reusable patterns, prefixes, suffixes, counters, and case rules. When an existing attachment is renamed, WP PowerSuite updates the attachment path and metadata, regenerates image sizes, and can rewrite supported references in post content and non-serialized post meta.

When Redirect Manager is enabled, Media Rename Manager can also create a 301 from the old media URL to the new one. Media Rename Manager is a Pro module in WP PowerSuite.

Rename WordPress Media Without Manually Moving Files

Clean New Uploads With Configurable Naming Rules

For sites that only need a fixed automatic naming rule, Auto Image Upload Rename provides a simpler zero-configuration option. Media Rename Manager is designed for projects that need control over how filenames are built.
New uploads can be slugified according to the configured case transformation, maximum length, accent handling, excluded extensions, and optional unique suffix. This lets an agency establish a predictable filename policy across new media while using the same rules for later manual or bulk renames.

Preserve Old Media URLs With Redirect Manager

Changing a public media filename changes its URL. When Redirect Manager is enabled, Media Rename Manager can optionally add a 301 rule from the old URL to the new one.
This is useful when images or documents have been shared externally, indexed, included in old content, or referenced from places WP PowerSuite cannot safely rewrite. The redirect option is intentionally dependent on Redirect Manager rather than implementing a second redirect engine inside the media module.

Use Rename and Alt Text Workflows Together

Filename cleanup and image descriptions solve different problems. Media Rename Manager organizes the physical media filename and URL, while AI Alt Text Generator can analyze the image and manage descriptive alternative text for accessibility and content workflows.
Keeping these concerns separate means a team can improve file organization without overwriting attachment descriptions, or improve alt text without changing URLs. On larger media projects, the two workflows can be applied independently according to what each attachment actually needs.

Use Cases

  • Clean a Legacy Media Library
Rename inconsistent or machine-generated filenames while updating supported WordPress references.
  • Bulk Agency Standardization
Apply a repeatable title, post-title, date, or counter naming pattern across selected client media.
  • Rename SEO-Sensitive Media
Change filenames while optionally creating redirects from old media URLs.
  • Organize Product Photography
Apply consistent filenames to WooCommerce and catalog media collections.
  • Enforce Future Naming Rules
Sanitize new uploads automatically so naming problems do not continue accumulating.
