Media Rename Manager gives you controlled filename management for new uploads and existing WordPress attachments without manually moving files through FTP.

Automatically sanitize new upload names, rename individual Media Library files, or bulk rename selected attachments using reusable patterns, prefixes, suffixes, counters, and case rules. When an existing attachment is renamed, WP PowerSuite updates the attachment path and metadata, regenerates image sizes, and can rewrite supported references in post content and non-serialized post meta.

When Redirect Manager is enabled, Media Rename Manager can also create a 301 from the old media URL to the new one. Media Rename Manager is a Pro module in WP PowerSuite.

Rename WordPress Media Without Manually Moving Files

  • Renaming an attachment in WordPress is more complicated than changing the attachment title. The real file exists on disk, WordPress stores a relative path in attachment metadata, generated thumbnails have their own filenames, and posts may already contain the old URL or basename.

Build Bulk Filenames From Useful Tokens

  • Bulk renaming is most useful when filenames can be generated from information WordPress already knows. WP PowerSuite supports tokens such as {title}, {post-title}, {id}, {date}, and {counter}, with optional prefix and suffix values around the resolved pattern.
  • A media collection can therefore move from filenames like IMG_9482.jpg and export-final-3.png toward a repeatable structure based on attachment titles, parent content, dates, or sequential counters. The counter uses a three-digit format, which keeps large batches visually ordered when the resulting files are reviewed outside WordPress.

Update References After the Physical File Changes

  • Media renaming should never become a way to change a safe attachment into executable server code. WP PowerSuite preserves the original extension, blocks dangerous executable or configuration-like extensions and dotted segments, rejects empty or traversal-style names, and verifies that the destination does not already exist.
  • If the physical rename succeeds but WordPress later encounters an uploads-directory error during the operation, the module attempts to move the file back rather than leaving the attachment half-renamed. Preserve Old Media URLs With Redirect Manager

Changing a public media filename changes its URL. When Redirect Manager is enabled, Media Rename Manager can optionally add a 301 rule from the old URL to the new one.
This is useful when images or documents have been shared externally, indexed, included in old content, or referenced from places WP PowerSuite cannot safely rewrite. The redirect option is intentionally dependent on Redirect Manager rather than implementing a second redirect engine inside the media module.
